Before you apply

Apply to the right pool. There is a citywide fund and a separate Discretionary Response Fund for each community board area — Te Pātaka o Rākaihautū Banks Peninsula, Waihoro Spreydon-Cashmere-Heathcote, Waimāero Fendalton-Waimairi-Harewood, Waipapa Papanui-Innes-Central and the others. A local kaupapa goes to the local board, not the citywide pool.

Allow eight weeks for a decision, depending on meeting timing, then a minimum of two more weeks for payment after the signed funding agreement comes back. Ten weeks from applying to money in the account is a realistic plan.

You must spend the grant as set out in the funding agreement. Unspent money has to be returned, and if your plans change you contact a Community Funding Advisor rather than quietly repurposing it. For GST-registered organisations the grant is treated as no deemed supply and does not attract GST.

Christchurch also runs a Youth Development Fund per community board, a Place Partnership Fund, a Youth Climate Action Fund and the Mayor’s Welfare Fund. communitygrants@ccc.govt.nz.
