Grants for a big idea that no other funding will cover. Open now, and you can apply in whatever format suits you.
Before you apply
You have to be a Manawanui customer or their agent. That is the gate — this is a social enterprise reinvesting its profits into the people it already supports, not an open public fund. If you are on Individualised Funding and Manawanui manages it, you are in.
Apply in any format that suits you. A video, a PowerPoint, a Word document, or just a letter. There is a template if you want structure but you do not have to use it. Almost no funder anywhere does this, and for someone who finds a standard application form a barrier it changes everything.
The panel is independent and instructed to award funding to as many applicants as possible within the budget, so partial funding is common and the odds are better than most contestable rounds.
The one hard rule: it must be something Individualised Funding and every other source will not cover, and you have to show you have looked. That evidence is part of the application.
What it has funded: an assistance dog, welding gear so someone could give back to their community, getting a book published, a greenhouse, songwriting, Special Olympics participation, business start-ups, and chickens. Education and tuition including support costs, technology, research projects and leadership development are all named as eligible.
Two conditions if you succeed. You report back on outcomes, and you agree to let Manawanui profile you and your project. Once every three years, one application per person per round.
