Before you apply

Worth reading twice: this is administered through Ngāi Tahu but is open to other Māori as well, which almost nothing else on their portal is. If you are not Ngāi Tahu, ring 0800 524 8248 about how to apply, since the portal login is built around a whakapapa registration number.

You need a completed budget breakdown showing what the scholarship would pay for, and a letter of support attesting to your suitability. The letter has to come from a kaumātua, a Māori liaison officer, a tutor or teacher who is Māori, a leader of a Māori community group, or an iwi representative of a Māori authority, rūnanga or trust board. Line that person up early — February to April is a short window. The scholarship's own page has been removed from Ngāi Tahu's site — this links to the opportunities search hub instead; search or filter for Mazzetta there.
