Before you apply

This one is retrospective, which changes how you plan for it. It recognises achievement and perseverance after you have successfully completed an academic year, so it is not money to start study with — it is money for having finished a year.

The part worth acting on: Ngāti Rangitihi are Taihonoa Partners with Te Herenga Waka Victoria University of Wellington, which matches whatever the Charitable Trust grants. If you are enrolled there, submit your results on completion of a successful year and the grant doubles. If you are not, you still apply for the ordinary grant.

Applications go through the Māori Education Trust portal, not the iwi site, so create a MET account before the round opens. You need bank account verification and confirmation of enrolment. MET notifies applicants in writing. Apprenticeships and industry training count, which many iwi education grants leave out. Te Mana o Ngāti Rangitihi Trust, 35 Heale St, Matatā. 0800 AKATEA.
