Before you apply

Listed because DIA's Oranga Marae pages are still live and still describe the programme as though it runs. Marae are being sent to a fund that no longer exists.

The dedicated Oranga Marae Lottery Committee was dissolved on 1 July 2026. Marae now apply through the general Lottery Fund, and the doorway is Lottery Funding for Community Facilities, listed separately here. Marae are named throughout its criteria.

The change that matters: Oranga Marae required no contribution from the marae. The new fund requires partnership funding of 10% between $100,000 and $250,000, and 20% above $250,000. Under $100,000 there is still no contribution required.

Partnership funding is not the same as cash. See the Community Facilities listing for what counts.

Re-checked 16 September 2026: the confusion this record warns about is real and ongoing. Te Puni Kōkiri's own tupu.nz funding-search tool still lists "Oranga Marae" as a current programme ("provides advice and practical support to develop marae, whānau, hapū and iwi"), in the same present tense as their separately-flagged stale Māori Enterprise page. Treat any page still describing Oranga Marae as an open, fundable programme as unreliable — the Lottery-administered funding component is what closed, and Lottery Funding for Community Facilities is the confirmed replacement route.
