Before you apply

You do not start with a form. Sport Hawke’s Bay ask you to read their community guidance, then send an expression of interest or ring your Sport Hawke’s Bay rep to talk the project through. They give feedback, then send you an application link. For a new club or rōpū that is an advantage — they help shape the application before you write it.

The Fast Fund is the one most people should look at first. Up to $8,000, and it runs bi-monthly rather than once or twice a year, so there is always a round coming. It is built for equipment purchases, facility hire, transport costs and the other things that stop a group delivering. The Full Fund goes to $30,000 for larger scale work.

Track record is not the test. The fund exists to get tamariki and rangatahi active, and Sport Hawke’s Bay have said publicly they want applications from a wide range of organisations and are seeing new groups come forward. A new club with a trust behind it is squarely who this is for.

Money is spread across the region rather than concentrated. One recent round split grants between Central Hawke’s Bay, Napier, Hastings and regional projects.

Tū Manawa is a partnership between Sport NZ and regional sports trusts, set up in 2020 after participation fell during COVID. Around fifteen regional partners deliver it and each sets its own rounds, amounts and priorities — apply to the one covering your rohe, not to Sport NZ. Other regions are listed here separately.
