Before you apply

Enrolment and a scholarship application are two separate processes -- enrolling does not put you up for a scholarship, and you need your student ID from the confirmation of enrolment before you can start the scholarship form. Free application-training sessions run beforehand and are worth attending. Several named scholarships within this round carry the names of the wānanga's founders and leaders and are listed as their own records: Dr Rongo Wetere, Boy Mangu Mātauranga Māori Waharoa, Dr Buck Nin, Te Matatini and Te Pou. Others exist beyond those five under names including Rewi Panapa, Dr Diggeress Te Kanawa, Tane Taylor, Mike Watson and Aunty Ma, not yet individually verified. Preference is often given to tauira Māori who are first in their whānau to study at tertiary level -- say so if it applies. Full terms are in Te Matakā. Recipients are announced at an award ceremony in Kirikiriroa in August.
