Before you apply

As of 17 September 2026 this scholarship does not appear in Te Herenga Waka's public "Find a scholarship" database (239 current listings, searched directly, zero results for "Macarthy") — unlike other scholarship detail pages on the same /scholarships/current/ URL pattern (confirmed working with no login, e.g. the Alison Morton Scholarship), this one redirects straight to the university SSO login. The funding source is almost certainly the Thomas George Macarthy (TG Macarthy) Trust — founded 1912, governed by the Thomas George Macarthy Trust Act 1936, administered by Public Trust (publictrust.co.nz/grants/t-g-macarthy-trust/), whose Board of Governors (Governor-General, PM, Mayor of Wellington, Catholic Archbishop of Wellington) matches VUW's own description of the scholarship's founding body. The Trust is clearly still active — it reports granting $3 million to greater Wellington communities recently — so this specific scholarship listing being unpublished looks administrative rather than a sign the funding has ended. Worth confirming current status either with VUW's Scholarships Office (scholarships-office@vuw.ac.nz, 0800 04 04 04) or Public Trust directly (TGM-trust@publictrust.co.nz, 0800 371 471), since VUW's university-specific education/investment grants from this Trust may go through a different, less publicised process than its general contestable community grants.
