Before you apply

The rule that catches people has a five-year tail. If you were granted funding before and never filed the Project Report, you are ineligible — for five years, across the whole council. An unfinished acquittal from 2022 blocks an application today, and it may not be you who left it unfinished but the rōpū you are applying for.

Three boards, three separate pools, and you apply to the one covering where the project happens rather than where you live. Deadlines sit before each board meeting and are published on the council site, so there is no single annual date.

Each board also holds a separate Placemaking Fund, around $100,000, distinct from the grants pool. Worth asking about if your kaupapa is about a place rather than an event.

Marae are funded — Omanaia Marae received a grant for carpet in the multipurpose room, so practical marae costs are in scope. The form asks whether you have engaged with tangata whenua about your project, so have that answer ready. Incomplete, late or non-complying applications are not considered at all.

Talk to the Funding Advisor before you write — 09 401 5775, freephone 0800 920 029, funding@fndc.govt.nz. They will also point you at alternative funding if this is not the right fit.
