Before you apply

The Kapenga M Scholarship sits inside the same application, so tick both rather than applying twice. The scholarship needs a grade average of A- or better, meaning a GPA of 7 and 840 points or higher, and at least first year completed in a degree, masters or PhD. The grant itself has no grade threshold. The Kapenga M Scholarship is applied for through the same form. Registration is once only. After that you can see every online grant your whakapapa makes you eligible for, which is the point of applying through this system rather than chasing trusts one at a time. Use the same login each year and you do not have to supply whakapapa again. Uploads required: verified whakapapa sheet signed by a shareholder, enrolment confirmation, academic record for year 2 and above, a receipt for fees paid or student loan advice, and bank account confirmation. An invoice is not a receipt. First-year students on Fees Free need eligibility confirmation from the Tertiary Education Commission. Check whether you are an owner through Māori Land Online, owner interest tab. The trusts also work with the Māori Education Trust, which can add further funding to a successful application. Deloitte Rotorua also administers secondary school grants, hard-copy tertiary grants and scholarship grants for these trusts. Contact Lee Gray, leegray@deloitte.co.nz.
