Before you apply

No extra criteria beyond the shared ones — confirmed against the trust’s own application page on 23 August 2026. Part-time study is not excluded here, unlike some of the other trusts. The 2026 round opened 27 January 9am and closed 30 April 4.30pm. Applications must be signed and submitted by the closing date; the Student Declaration is part of that. Registration is once only. After that you can see every online grant your whakapapa makes you eligible for, which is the point of applying through this system rather than chasing trusts one at a time. Use the same login each year and you do not have to supply whakapapa again. Uploads required: verified whakapapa sheet signed by a shareholder, enrolment confirmation, academic record for year 2 and above, a receipt for fees paid or student loan advice, and bank account confirmation. An invoice is not a receipt. First-year students on Fees Free need eligibility confirmation from the Tertiary Education Commission. Check whether you are an owner through Māori Land Online, owner interest tab. The trusts also work with the Māori Education Trust, which can add further funding to a successful application.
