Before you apply

Onuku Māori Lands Trust farms 2,440 hectares at the base of Ruawahia Maunga, from the shores of Lake Rotomahana to State Highway 38 — land that dates from the 1886 Tarawera eruption — held by more than 4,800 owners. Perpetual Guardian lists this alongside its other legacy trusts, though the trust runs its own website and grant forms directly.

Other grants the trust runs, not education-specific: a Kaumātua Grant of up to $200 a year for owners 65 and over, applied for between the AGM and 15 June and paid in December; discretionary Sporting and Cultural Grants for owners or descendants representing Aotearoa overseas; and an annual Owners Grant paid to every registered owner with current contact and bank details on file, share-based with a $50 minimum, that does not accumulate if missed.
