Applications open all year; funding decisions made in August and March each year
Who can apply
Priority goes to mana whenua (the 19 entities recognised by Auckland Council) and mātāwaka entities (serving Māori in Auckland who are not mana whenua, Māori-led, active in Tāmaki Makaurau). Not-for-profit organisations supporting Māori communities may also apply. Public sector agencies cannot receive funding directly but may partner with an eligible Māori-led applicant. Marae should apply through the separate Cultural Initiatives Fund – Marae instead. For 2025–2027 the fund prioritises projects aligned with Iwi Ora, Marae Ora and Te Hapori Ora outcomes — Māori leadership and governance, community and cultural projects, environmental restoration and kaitiakitanga, economic development and innovation, housing aspirations, and climate leadership.
