Coast Community Board fund that names marae facility development first among what it pays for.
Before you apply
Marae facility development and upgrades is the first thing listed in the fund criteria, not an afterthought. Ōpōtiki district is around 63% Māori, the highest in the motu, and the fund reads like it.
One exclusion decides a lot: marae projects, or parts of projects, that could attract funding from another source are excluded. So this is for the pieces the Lottery Fund will not cover, not a first port of call. Work out what the bigger funders will not touch, then bring that here.
Education and training for organisations or their members is eligible where it leads to ongoing benefit for the coast community — a wānanga for a marae committee would fit.
Ōpōtiki also administers the Creative Communities Scheme locally, which has funded wānanga to restore whakairo and kōwhaiwhai at Roimata Wharenui and hapū kapa haka.
