Before you apply

Priority goes to projects that prevent waste rather than manage it after the fact. In the 2025 pilot round (criteria have since been adjusted), Te Rūnanga o Toa Rangatira received $15,000 for a maara kai (food garden) and composting project at Kura Toa — a concrete example of an iwi organisation using this fund directly. Drop-in support sessions with a Waste Minimisation Advisor run at Porirua City Centre Library; otherwise email reducewaste@poriruacity.govt.nz or phone (04) 237 5089.
