Council fund for new community initiatives, where you match at least half the value yourself.
Before you apply
The match does not have to be money. In-kind support and volunteer time count toward your 50%, which puts this within reach of a group with people but no pūtea. Count the hours honestly and it adds up fast.
Informal grassroots neighbourhood groups are explicitly eligible, so you do not need to be incorporated. Iwi, hapū and kaupapa Māori organisations are named in the eligibility list rather than left to be inferred, and Kaupapa Māori is one of the council’s six funding priorities.
Because of demand, an organisation receives only one Community Grant or Match Fund Medium Grant a year. Every application has to show contribution to at least one Principle of Support. Lobbying and legal expenses are not funded.
