Before you apply

The catch is cash flow, not eligibility. The scholarship is paid to the student in Huringa Rua, after your Huringa Tuatahi study requirements are confirmed complete. Your tuition fees still have to be paid inside the standard six-week payment period, so you find the fees up front and are reimbursed later in the year. Budget for that before counting on it.

Two more conditions. It is not available to students likely to receive another major scholarship of $3,000 or more, and you must declare any you have applied for. And it is conditional on completing your study — fail to meet the requirements and it is not paid, with any portion already paid recoverable the following year. Reapplying means your previous academic record is checked, with preference given to a sound one. A bank deposit slip or bank verification in the student’s own name is required.

Re-checked 16 September 2026: the funder's own scholarships page has become sparser since this record was last written — it no longer displays a specific dollar amount, award count, or open/close date range, only that scholarships are applied to fees in two payments (mid-year and on completion) and are available "at the start of each academic year." That doesn't contradict the $1,500–$3,000 / 75+ awards / mid-February–30 April figures already on file, but it also doesn't confirm them any more — worth a closer look next time rather than assuming they still hold.
