Before you apply

This is not a grant and Amotai say so themselves: they do not win you the work, you do — through your products, your pitch, your pricing, your compliance and your ability to deliver. What they do is make sure buyers know you exist.

For a pakihi chasing contracts rather than grant money, that is often worth more. Registration is free, your business goes into the verified Māori and Pasifika supplier directory, and buyers searching for diverse suppliers can find you. Amotai’s supplier team also get in touch for a kōrero once you are approved.

Buyers include government agencies, councils, corporates and iwi organisations who have made commitments on supplier diversity. Several government contracts now carry progressive procurement requirements, which is why being in the system matters — a buyer working to a target cannot count you if you are not there.

You still have to be competitive on price and meet the usual requirements around quality, health and safety, methodology and compliance. Amotai open the door; they do not carry you through it.

Meet the Buyer events are worth the effort. They invert the usual pitch — buyers tell Māori and Pasifika businesses why they should work with them rather than the other way round.

Registration runs through platform.amotai.nz. Get your profile complete and keep it current, since an out-of-date profile is how you get passed over. kiaora@amotai.nz.

Poutama Trust point pakihi Māori at Amotai and both are listed here. Worth doing together — Poutama for capability, Amotai for the buyers.
