Before you apply

Read on He Akina's page, quoted verbatim: "Applications are processed monthly and close on the 10th of each month." That is ten chances a year, not four — corrected 3 September 2026 from an earlier reading that had this as quarterly. Missing one still costs a month, not three. Apply through the members portal at heakina.co.nz/wairakei-charitable-trust, or download the Projects, Wānanga or Marae Unveiling forms from the same page. Email grants@heakina.co.nz.

He Akina is trust office for ten Taupō entities: Opepe Farm Trust, Te Pae o Waimihia, Tauhara Moana Trust, Tauhara Middle 15 Trust, Tauhara Mountain Trust, Kaimanawa 3B2A and 3B2B Trust, Te Mana o Tauhara Charitable Trust, Tahorakuri No.2, East Taupō Lands and Wairakei Charitable Trust. As at 3 September 2026, Tauhara Middle 15, Tauhara Mountain, Kaimanawa 3B2A/3B2B, Te Mana o Tauhara and Tahorakuri No.2 have no grants published on He Akina's site — ask what a whānau's owner interests in any of them are eligible for. There is an All Grants Brochure covering the lot.

Other grants across the group include a Kaumātua Grant for Tauhara Moana owners 65+, an Over 80's Grant ($600, paid in March) and Tangihanga Grant ($500) for East Taupō Lands owners (its tertiary, school and kaumātua-medical grants are currently paused — listed separately), a $500 Tangihanga Grant for Opepe Farm Trust owners, an education grant and a kura/kohanga reo grant for Te Pae o Waimihia members and providers (both listed separately), and 20kg of fish or trout to support Ngāti Tūwharetoa tangihanga.
