Before you apply

Two things worth knowing. First years cannot apply — it recognises academic excellence from year 2 onward. And applying for the scholarship automatically enters you for the Tertiary Education Grant using the same information, so you do not submit twice. Each scholarship category supports a Pou of the Ngā Ara Matua strategy, and recipients are chosen partly on how their study aligns with those Pou, so say which one your study serves. Three entities fund these jointly — the Tūwharetoa Māori Trust Board, the Tūwharetoa Settlement Trust and the Ngāti Tūwharetoa Fisheries Charitable Trust. Being registered with any one of them can be enough, so check all three before deciding you are not eligible. Office (07) 386 8832, education@tuwharetoa.co.nz.
