Before you apply

A hard cap of $7,500 excluding GST per organisation in a round, and a maximum of two live applications at once. Lower than most regions, so scale the ask to it rather than being cut back.

The questions they ask up front are the application in miniature: how do you know there is a need, what evidence do you have, who have you spoken to, what barriers are you removing, and are you targeting young people who are missing out. Answer those before you open the form.

Schools and kura can apply, but the funding must not replace curriculum delivery.

There is a kaupapa Māori pathway. Several regions assess those applications against Te Whetū Rehua, the five key Māori development criteria. If your kaupapa is Māori-led, apply through that pathway rather than the general one.

You must show the tamariki and rangatahi actually want it — collated survey results, a photo of a whiteboard brainstorm, a video of young people talking about it. Do that before you write.

Ages 5 to 18. Priority to those less active, including girls and young women, disabled tamariki and rangatahi, and higher deprivation communities. Funds delivery — venue or equipment hire, transport, and wages for delivery staff. Does not fund capital costs, existing staff salaries, administration, medals, or representative teams and academies.

You must be a legal entity, or partner with one. Fourteen Regional Sports Trusts deliver this and each sets its own rounds — apply to the one covering your rohe.

Link note, 31 August 2026. The specific fund page has moved or been taken down and now lands on the trust’s homepage. Look for Tū Manawa in their funding section, or ring them. The fund itself is unchanged.
